About

Cameron Gurss is an educator, composer, violinist, and conductor based in Kansas City. He has recently completed his Bachelor’s of Music Education (BME) and his Bachelor’s of Music Composition (BM) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory (UMKC). He has student-taught in the Shawnee Mission, North Kansas City, and Olathe public school districts and currently teaches private violin/viola lessons at Meyer Music. Cameron is also the Assistant Camp Director at the annual July Strings Camp in Kansas City.

 

Cameron began his musical journey in the 5th grade on the violin and fell in love with the power of music to be a unifier and a strong vessel for emotional connection and communication. He began composing original music in middle school and has been studying these two musical crafts ever since. Cameron’s compositions have been featured at the Kansas Music Educator’s Association Conference, and seen over 1 million times on the popular Youtube channel Two-Set Violin. In 2025 Cameron held two recitals, one featuring five world premieres of his original work, and the other featuring ten world premieres by composers across Kansas City. Cameron is a strong advocate of new music and a champion of living composers.

 

Cameron is proud to have studied violin under Robert Hagenbuch Jr. and Joseph Genualdi. He has studied composition with Robert Hagenbuch Jr., Paul Rudy, Chen Yi, and Zhou Long. Finally Cameron has studied education, conducting, and musicianship with Lani Hamilton, Kevin Noe, Jeffrey Bishop, Joe Parisi, and Michelle Davis. Cameron is forever thankful to all of the educators who have shaped his career and aspires to become a great educator like all of them!
